4 Reasons You Can't Stop Dieting

Dieting can feel very black and white. Eat this, not that. You can have this, but need to avoid that. Only eat during certain times. You must never have a cookie. Good and bad. The problem with dieting, is it truly creates a mindset of “right” and “wrong” without any leeway in between.

Someone with a diet mentality may “slip” on their diet on Friday and now because they “got off track” will proceed to eat anything and everything the rest of the weekend because their diet can start again on Monday. This is a prime example of the all or nothing mindset.

When it comes to health, this all or nothing mindset can become very detrimental, as it’s extremely challenging (and not necessary) to restrict food for the rest of your life. If it’s not sustainable, it’s probably not a great solution.

So if we know this, why is it so easy to get sucked into yet another diet?

  1. We love the promise of a quick fix. Who wouldn’t love to achieve every health and fitness goal with the click the fingers,  or 3 weeks hardcore dieting? The problem is, this never leads us to a sustainable solution. Instead, it leaves us in a never ending yo-yo dieting pattern that often leads us to worse health than before we startedf.

  2. Restriction can become part of our identity. It can lead to a badge of honor of being “so healthy” when in reality, you’re depriving yourself of not only tasty food, but necessary nutrients that your body needs.

  3. Our mindset isn’t right. The first, and most important place to start, is with your mind. Your mind houses beliefs (negative and positive) about weight, your body, food, and your health. The first place in getting healthier will always be with your mind.

  4. We don’t trust our body (yet). If it feels scary to intuitively eat, and to trust that your body will tell you what it needs, this is a sign you maybe haven’t let go of the diets. However, the good news is, it’s possible (hit me up, because I’m happy to do a free consultation for you!)

If this feels relatable to you, know that it's normal! However, it’s not normal, and not needed,  to be on a diet for the rest of your life. You can ditch the diet, enjoy a variety of foods without restriction, and trust your body enough to not have to follow food rules.

It IS possible, and we want to help you do it! I’d love to connect with you for a free consult to help get your mindset right, so you can be in peace with your food choices, and your body.
