How To Tell If You're Still On a Diet

You’ve decided you want to be done with the diets- it's time to rid yourself of them! But are there still lingering diet habits in your life? Are you on a diet without even knowing it? Sometimes these habits we develop become ingrained in us, without even realizing it. But these habits ultimately are what keep us from achieving a full connection with our bodies. 

Here are 6 signs that you  may still be on a diet:

  1. You’re still counting carbs or macros. The action of counting to control your weight is essentially the same thing as counting calories from a mindset standpoint. Food tracking can be used as a tool, but if you’re using it for weight loss, it is still being used as a form of dieting.

  2. You’re using caffeine to suppress your hunger hormones. Example: you’re hungry at 3PM so you’ll just have an afternoon coffee to “bridge the gap”. This is a classic dieting hack to pacify hunger pains without intaking as many calories. Girl, we love our coffee too, but don’t substitute it for food!

  3. You still view food as either good or bad. When you consider eating something do you think, “I shouldn’t have this, it’s bad for me”? 

  4. You fear what other people might think of you based on your food choices. If you’re only eating what’s “healthy” in front of others, that may be a sign.

  5. You only eat at certain times of the day, regardless if you’re hungry or not. This is a very common dieting rule and it drives down the belief that you don’t trust your body and doesn’t know what it needs or when. (intermittent fasting, we’re looking at ya)

  6. If “it’s a lifestyle”. Is it though? If you’re so rigid with what you're eating, consider if you’re doing this with the ultimate intention of weight loss-  because if that is the case, it’s a diet in disguise.

You may want to ask yourself:

  1. Do I really trust my body?

  2. Do I believe that my body has the capability to do what is right?

  3. Do I trust in my own hunger cues?

  4. Why or why not?

  5. What else can I focus on, other than dieting?

Remember, you were born an intuitive eater- you CAN do this! Though it may be a challenge, you can absolutely create a relationship with your body you truly rely on. We challenge you to take one step today away from dieting, and back to yourself.
